Itsukushima Shrine, Hiroshima
I would contest that Itsukushima Shrine is one of the most breath-taking and beautiful shrines I’ve visited in Japan till this day. Erected in honor of the three daughters of Susanoo no Mikoto (the god of storm and sea), the shrine sits upon the Hiroshima Bay. At high tide, it creates the illusion that the shrine is floating on water. Luckily, we were able to visit during high-tide, so I could snap this picture! The shrine is also considered so pure that no births or deaths on the island where it was built (Miyajima) are permitted, and those who were close to labor or where death was imminent would be sent away. In any case, it’s definitely a gorgeous place to check out if you get the chance!
WOW. You make me want to visit all these places.

Kyushu is fabulous for a road trip.
We drove from Fukuoka to Ibusuki and ‘bathed’ in the hot sands

One deer actually ate my Miyajima tourist brochure just shortly after I disembarked from the boat…(-.o)

Not sure when I’ll make it out to Japan, also sad because I speak Japanese and haven’t been there yet, but have a feeling when I do I won’t leave for several years if ever. Just started teaching in Phuket this month and want to stay here for a year to get experience, but then will transition to Japan!

Oh wow! Thailand sounds amazing though. I’ve never been, but I heard the food is great!

I’ve only been to a few of the beaches so far and they’re absolutely gorgeous, but I hear the islands are even more so. I’m here for 6 months so will get there eventually 🙂
The food is so delicious wow! It’s super cheap and explores all the different tastes– sweet, spicy, tangy. A downside though, is id say it’s harder to eat healthy. Loads of carbs with little vegetables, and it’s all fried. Where there’s a will there’s a way though I suppose.

Oh wow! I’m sure with summer coming up the beaches in Thailand must be so refreshing too. I never realized Thai food had so many carbs though! Interesting point. Hopefully you can find some fresh veggies to eat!
